Mikolai Wierzynek is our role model. His hospitality and generosity continues to inspire us today.. It was him, who in 1364 on request of King Casmir the Great, hosted famous 20-day feast to celebrate the wedding of the king’s granddaughter - Elisabeth of Pommerania with Charles IV, The Holy Roman Emperor . Mikolai Wierzynek entertained his Guests lavishly: the Rulers of Europe were dining, wining and celebrating for 20 days. At parting each of them was endowed with silver and gold tableware, he had eaten from during the feast.
Mikolai Wierzynek was a wealthy  merchant from a respected Cracow familiy. He enjoyed the confidence zaufaniemof the King He was an alderman (since 1344) and councilor (since 1347). He became famous for being the host of the 1364 congress of European monarchs on behalf of the Polish King, due to his passion for excuisite cuisine - since his chefs were considered better than the royal ones. According to the legend the celebratedfeast was held in the same tenement house, in which our Restaurant is located today. In line with this historical tradition we are giving a royal welcome to every Gues, every single day. Elzbieta Filipiak – is the owner of Wierzynek Restaurant. She managed to build a bridge between tradition and modernity , she excuisitely transformed the Cracow landmark building adding ultra-modern comfortswell as reviving the splendor of the Restaurant after the communist period.. Under her management the historical buildings were renovated and gained new décor and the traditional Old Polish menu was seasoned with a pinch of modern taste, reflecting the influence of French, Italian, Hungarian and Russian cuisine upon the Polish taste. Inn the course of time one thing remains constant – in Wierzynek we serve only the best of Polish dishes! And our royal guest List provides the best proof:  such noble Guests as: King of Spain Juan Carlos, Japan's Emperor Akihito and Prince Joachim of Denmark dined at our tables |
