History
Our Tradition
In 1364 the King of Poland – Kasimir the Great held a sumptuous feast to celebrate the wedding of his granddaughter Elisabeth of Pommerania with Charles IV, The Holy Roman Emperor. Mikołaj Wierzynek, wealthy merchant and councillor of Cracow was asked by the King to host the event.

Mikolaj Wierzynek took to the task with great care and overwhelmed his noble Guests: Charles IV, the Emperor, king Louis I of Hungary, king Peter I of Cyprus, king Waldemar IV  of Denmark as well as other monarchs and magnates with a truly lavish welcome.

According to chroniclers and eye witnesses the tables were groaning with food and drinks and the guests celebrated for 20 days and nights without pause, while debating the current political issues in Europe. Upon departure, the generous merchant presented each guest with a splendid gift – gold and silver tableware.

At Wierzynek Restaurant we continue this great medieval tradition of feasting until the present day. Our cuisine is based on Old-Polish courtly recipes, and includes such local specialities as: game, fowl, mushrooms, groats, herbs and spices, as well as fish from the Polish streams. We follow tradition in creating our handmade pastry and confectionery specialities and ancient recipes and production techniques in creating our liqueurs and vodkas.

Now, by purchasing products from our souvenir shop you can take these unique flavours home with you!
